Don’t Settle for Good When You’re Waiting for Great
I have been in Wyoming this week with friends, and if you’ve seen my Instagram stories, you’ve probably noticed a lot of deer content, and no deer down. That’s on purpose.
This tag my friend drew is once in a lifetime. The kind of hunt most people wait decades to draw. Which means you don’t shoot just anything. You watch, you drive, you glass the ridges. You cover a lot of country. You wait for the right one.
Somewhere between the long days and cold mornings, it hit me how much that mirrors the rest of life. How often we get tired of waiting, so we settle for good enough. The almost-fit client. The almost-right opportunity. The path that looks fine from the outside but doesn’t quite feel aligned inside.
Waiting is uncomfortable. It can look like inaction from the outside. But sometimes the best move is no move at all, just the courage to stay patient, keep putting in the hours and the work, until what’s meant for you comes into view. Because when it does, it’s unmistakable.
I think we forget that waiting is its own kind of work. It builds things in us that rushing never could: perspective, resilience, trust. You can’t fake that kind of strength. You only earn it in the in-between.
And then one day, almost without realizing it, the thing you’ve been waiting for finally comes into focus.
If you’re in a season of searching or second-guessing, take heart. The right things take time. Don’t settle for good when great is still on its way.
And if you’re in that in-between space (where you can see the next ridge but not quite the path to get there) this might be your nudge to slow down instead of speed up. I’ve opened a few Strategy Session spots this month if you need help seeing the bigger picture and realigning your next move.
Here’s to waiting well.
